School Based Security Response (SBSR)

This course is designed to provide personnel either already in, or expected to fulfill, a School Resource Officer (SRO), School Security Officer (SSO), or similar position on a school or university campus. Participants are provided with active shooter case study, law enforcement expectations and priorities of work, and best practices, among other topics.

Prerequisites:

Current TX DPS PSB Commissioned Armed Security Officers (Level III) assigned or scheduled to be assigned to School Security Officer billets; School administration and/or support staff; teachers.

 Description:
This course delivers a curriculum covering the basics of functioning in an educational environment, appropriate interactions and best practices, active shooter profiling, prevention and preparation methodologies and practices, proper search and engagement methods, and basic emergency lifesaving practices. Participants must complete all required course assignments, activities, quizzes, and/or end of course exam.  Participants are expected to qualify on a standardized table of fire with a pistol.

 Audience:
School administration, support staff, and/or teachers in a school district utilizing the Guardian Program; Current qualified TX DPS PSB Commissioned Armed Security Officers assigned or scheduled to be assigned to School Security Officer billets

 Learning Outcomes:
Individuals will gain a fundamental knowledge of applications of use of force in and around school and university campuses, as it pertains to active shooter events, history and development of modern practices, and practical application of best practices, based on real-world scenarios.

 Length in Hours:
40, with additional range time.
